I am starting out this new blog to address more universal issues and current events. Previous blogs have been more about my own personal stories, but I feel there needs to be a space in which I can address these broader issues and receive feedback.
Right now, Hip Hop Congress Chicago is getting ready for our trip to the 5th Annual Hip Hop Congress National Conference from June 21st-25th. We are still desperately trying to raise more money so that we can take a few people that are still in limbo due to their financial situations. Most of us are young, hard-working, organizers\educators\artists with most of our time and money going back into a larger social, cultural, and political movement. In addition, we are also taking some of the younger generation who we have been mentoring. Most of these youth have more limited funds than we do. We feel, however, it is more important for them to start attending these types of Conferences since they will be the leaders soon. We will also be performing as a collective while there and opening up for Zion I!
The purpose of me informing everyone about this trip, besides creating awareness of work taking place, is to ask for financial support so that we can make sure everyone (especially the youth) can come on this trip with us. People can donate easily using the Paypal link, and you don't have to sign-up for Paypal to donate that way. All donations are tax-deductible. I think if people reading this donated just $10 each, we would be well on our way. We have been fundraising now for a while, and our not too far from our goal. However, the trip is only a few days away and we are now in a situation where we need to figure out if we have to leave people behind due to a lack of funds.
PEACE
Thanks for your support!
